Because constant practice speeds up development, make it part of your way of life.

You shouldn’t let the tools you’ve got around you stop you from using your mind fully. Rather than using aids such as cell phones, notepads, PIMs, and calendars as your only way of monitoring your life, treat them as a backup. Try to remember a phone number before you look it up. Reflect back on your last class discussion just before looking through class notes. if you practice often you may even start to surprise yourself!

Perhaps you can make your own memory tests. Prior to leaving the house, place something on the table, and when you arrive in the evening, try to remember what it was and exactly where you put it. To increase difficulty or use a number of objects, leave yourself notes and remember your actual words. When you shop, read the label on a product when you enter the retailer. Before you leave, remember as much as you can about the label, the wrapping, what shelf it was on, what products were on either side. Prior to leaving the store, go back to the display to find out how accurate you were.

You don’t need to be a genius to recognize that the things we do often are the things we’re the best at doing. Your brain is an object that needs to be maintained, much like any other important organ. An optimal lifestyle will certainly promote optimal brain function, so make good choices about eating, resting, and doing exercises. If you make a sincere effort to push the boundaries of your recall abilities each day for three weeks, you should see enough improvement that you will have built an incentive to proceed with memory training.
